Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez has accepted an offer from Arsenal, according to reports.
Eurosport France claim the Algerian has agreed to join the Gunners, but the deal is yet to be finalised.
It is understood Arsenal will submit a bid of £41million for the 26-year-old, which will be accepted. Leicester are reluctant to sell the winger, however they do not want to block the progression of his career.
Mahrez’s, Kamel Bengougan, was at Arsenal’s pre-season friendly against Lens on Friday and it is thought he met with Arsene Wenger after the 1-1 draw.
Leicester have spent the summer attempting to fend off interest for their key men. Jamie Vardy eventually opted against joining Arsenal, but the Foxes were unable to prevent N’Golo Kante’s transfer to Chelsea and Riyad Mahrez looks set to be the next out of the door.
The reports come just a week after Claudio Ranieri’s claim that: ‘It is over, the market is closed here. Mahrez wants to stay.’
That now looks unlikely as Arsenal are closing in on the signature of the Leicester Player of the Year.
Mahrez has spent two-and-a-half years in the East Midlands since joining from Le Harve for the tiny price tag of £300,000. After a season in which he scored 17 times and made 11 assists as Leicester were remarkably crowed Champions of England, his value has now risen to in excess of £40million.
The move will no doubt come as a huge blow to Leicester as the prepare to defender their Premier League title and for a Champions League campaign.
